The Progreso Gazette caught up with Sophomore Small Forward Alexa Pecina to ask her about the basketball season and her game. Here’s what she had to say in the Meet the Red Ants Q&A:

Q: Tell us when you knew you wanted to be a varsity basketball player, and why?

A: Since I was small I played basketball, and as long as I can remember I have wanted to continue in high school. 

Q: What is your fondest memory of your experience on the team this season?

A: I love the team building, and playing a sport with the people I consider family.

Q: How excited are you about being a member of the basketball team?

A: I am very excited about this year’s basketball season. 

Q: What did you do this summer to improve your game to get ready for this season?                              

A: I  worked on my game all summer. I would lift weights and work on my basketball skills on the court to get better.

Q: Who has influenced your play style the most?

A: Lerbron James

Q: Who is your favorite professional basketball player?

A: Lerbron James

Q: Who is the greatest basketball player of all time?

A: Lerbron James

Q: What drew you to play basketball over other sports?

A: I personally loved to play basketball since I was small it brought out an inner joy in me.

Q: What aspect of your game comes easy to you?

A: I enjoy grabibg a Rebound and getting the  offensive concepts started, and most of all being a leader on the court. 

Q: What advice has the coach given you that you will always remember?

A: My coach always tells me “have confidence in yourself you are the best”

Q: If you could play any basketball player 1v1 who would it be?

A: Lebron James

Q: Is there a particular  significance to your jersey number?

A: It’s just a number I used since I was small and I went on with it.

Q: What is the worst practice you have ever endured?

A: We never have bad practices.

Q: What tips would you give to someone going out for basketball?

A: It’s so much fun you will enjoy it a lot you make many memories. 

Q: What team is considered your biggest rival, and why?

A: Lyford, because they are the top team in our district.

Q: What is your most memorable shot?

A: All the passes my cousin gives me because it’s very deep meaning to me.

Q: What is your favorite game day hype song?

A: Jimmy Cooks-Drake 

Q: Who would you pick as your all time greatest starting five?                                                              A: Lebron James, Michael  Jordan, Steph Curry, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Tacos. 

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: I have say English.

Q: Who is your favorite college basketball team?

A: University of Connecticut, UCONN
